Are You a Mystic?

What makes a mystic?

How did Rumi or Thich Nhat Hanh or Jesus feel when they sat down to pray? How can we nurture that same deep intimacy with the Universe?

This is why the Holy Rebels Podcast exists—because mysticism is not a frequently discussed topic. It’s often described in an esoteric way that makes it seem like mystical intimacy is reserved for the spiritual elite.

The Number One Reason WHY mysticism is vague and hard to understand is because it happens in the deepest part of your soul, a part of yourself that is hidden from your own awareness.

In this episode we discuss what it takes to form a mystical bond with God. With practice and the right set of skills, you can have what Teresa of Avila describes as, “a state in which the soul experiences an extraordinary peace and rest, accompanied by delight or pleasure in contemplating God as present.”

Mentioned in this episode:
John of the Cross, The Spiritual Canticle of The Soul
Cosmic Eye to Universe Youtube Video
Thomas Merton, Conjectures of a Guilty Bystander

There was a time that this conversation would have been banned since it goes against indoctrinated beliefs. I believe in the power of the universe and that we were blessed with a mind that could take us to a higher consciousness to experience the true meaning of our spiritual path. I love that you are opening a fresh perspective into such a vast topic. Finding freedom in your own thoughts instead of being controlled into one way of seeing life is so empowering. You are giving us tools to think for ourselves and outside the “controlled religion box”. Many blessings

Thank you Nina for sharing your insights and creating the Holy Rebels podcast! I am excited that you will be covering not only the Catholic mystics but also Holy Rebels from the Celtic and Eastern philosophies as well as others.
I look forward to listening to your podcasts and growing in my spiritual journey. Afterall, to quote Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.”
